weekend roundup

fresh air, sunshine, and fall festivals

Saturday my roommate Kate and I went on a nice long stroll through Central Park. It has been on the bucket list of things to do and we definitely had to check this one off before the weather became too frigid. Good news . . . it did not disappoint! It was a beautiful fall day and the scenery was stunning! The leaves are changing and beginning to fall and tons of people were hanging around all over the park. I'm three weeks in and it was time to get some fresh air! We walked through the south side of the park and there was a neat fall festival going on. We saw cute kiddos {and their parents} dressed for halloween, a pumpkin patch, and tons of fun games!

After that, we took a walk through 5th Avenue . . .  definitely a mad house with tourists {I can't say anything really because a year ago my sister and I were doing the exact same thing, ha!} Just a block or two in we saw Gary Busey hanging over the Trump Towers building yelling hello to the tourists below.

Later in the day and Sunday we went grocery shopping stocking up for Storm Sandy. We have a large supply of water, milk, bread, peanut butter, noodles, and candles. The only thing we lack is a flashlight and batteries because everyone in NYC was out. Wish us luck riding out this storm!

happy friday.

Hope you all had a great week! My internship is fantastic! I learn something new every single day. Here's a picture in the front lobby I had to take for class. One thing I learned yesterday . . . I don't like taking pictures by myself . . . talk about awkward {I don't know what to do with my hands, ha!}

Have any fun plans for the weekend? We're trying to scope our options for this weekend . . . so many things to do to complete our list. I do see a future in carving pumpkins in Central Park though! Have a great weekend and until Monday, here are a few posts from around the web . . .

weekend roundup

NYC amazes me day by day. I have been here for an official two weeks and can't believe how they have flown by! The girls and I had an eventful weekend starting off by making a "must see" list that is growing every day. We marked a lot off this weekend, which was a plus because since then we've added a bunch more to do.
Saturday we decided to shop around the Flat Iron District. I believe this building belongs in Harry Potter don't you think?
After we walked all around downtown, we met up with some girls in our program at The Ainsworth to watch the Alabama v. UT game! And of course it was a blast watching the Tide win! Did I mention my bachelor/bachelorette sightings? Kate and I were on the way to dinner Friday night and walked right past Ali Fedotowsky and then apparently Chris Bukowski was at The Ainsworth during the game. I thought I had walked past him at some point in the night, but didn't actually think it was him . . . guess what?! It was!
But my favorite part of the weekend was Sunday when some girls and I decided to go on an afternoon cruise around Manhattan! It was absolutely stunning and the weather was perfect {except when the sun went down and it was freezing}. We saw all parts of Manhattan {including the Statue of Liberty, Harlem, Yankee Stadium, and Columbia University}! Who knew NYC had some beautiful views of greenery?

George Washington Bridge
The 20th bridge we went under. Literally.

Who knew Manhattan could be this beautiful without all the skyscrapers?!

Did you know those little things on the tops of the buildings hold water? Yep, they're water towers that are filled with water from underground.

around the office + chelsea

Thought I would share what I do only a daily basis {or at least for this week}! I have been Ashly's side kick. She's in charge of all the KK e-commerce {online} accounts, which includes Karen Kane, Zappos, Amazon, Belk, Dillards, Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Bon Ton, and a couple more! The past couple of days I have been working on reorders for fall, merchandising the website, and getting the next collections ready for the KK website! Check out all of our hard work here.

And now for a mini tour . . . here's the lobby with Spring 2013 on the mannequins.

And my desk! I should have straighted it up a little bit, but anyway, here it is!

Last night after work, I met up with some girls from my internship program at the Chelsea Market. They're ready for Halloween {boo!}

We decided on a mexican reataurant called Dos Caminos. It was delicious and definitely worthy to post a photo of my chicken tacos.

essentials of the city

I've compiled a list for all my visitors, wonderers, and future city-livers of my essentials for visiting/living here.

1) Accessories
Scarves, large tote bags, and tights are must for the fall. Scarves are a great way to layer with any outfit and they help keep you warm when walking to and from work. I'm a big scarf wearer and have worn one almost everyday since I've gotten here. Large totes are to store your notebooks and shoes! Yep, that's right, shoes. You can't run all over the city in four to six inch heels in a fast walk. I walk in flats and switch out right before I walk in the office. It's funny to walk down the streets and seeing women wear their nice business jacket, skirt, tights, and tennis shoes. I have never loved tights so much in my life. They've been super handy with the cool mornings. And if you get hot, then you can take them off during the day!

2) A nice glass of wine
I'm trying to branch out and test my wine pallette. Good thing I live with a wine-o who can teach me all about it! Speaking of which, you'll get to meet her on Thursday!

3) Fur Vest
Seriously, I walked in to the office yesterday and two of the seven women I work with was wearing a fur vest. They're chic, cozy, and definitely fierce!
Here are some of my favorites:
1     2     3

4) Compass
Last night Kate and I decided to walk the streets and find some place for dinner. We were looking for an authentic pizza place {hello, NYC is known for their pizza!} Well, we walked, walked, and guess what . . . walked some more! We had our iPhones out for navigation, but that wasn't helping. We ended up way past the Upper East Side {too bad I didn't run into Chuck Bass, ha}. Anyway, it was a great adventure, but a handy compass would have been very useful!

5) Hand Sanitizer
because you just never know who touched that door knob, sat in your seat, or rub against you {my favorite is Bath & Body Works: Creamy Pumpkin}.
6) Comfortable shoes
Comfort is the key word. I've always said beauty is pain, but when you're walking around the concrete streets, there is nothing more appealing than wearing comfortable shoes. I live in boots during the fall and winter. I love these Vince Camuto boots!

Fitting In

I've been in the city for a full week now. Last week I didn't do too much walking around because of the rainy weather and then I started work. We definitely made up for it this weekend! It was packed full of catching up with friends that just arrived, eating, walking, watching the bama game at the Ainsworth, and scoping out Washington Square Park. Oh and I checked off something on the bucket list...I rode on the subway for the first time! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Here's a few pictures from the weekend!

word from the city

I'm alive and enjoying the city! I've been here almost a week and still amazed that I'm actually here! I just wanted to check in before Monday and say a BIG thank you to Lauren and Sarah for doing a great job this past week! I better watch out, LB had some witty points. I've learned an incredible amount thus far . . .
1) New Yorkers are wimpy when it comes to the weather. It was literally 60 degrees yesterday and people were bundled up like they were in Antarctica. Really? I was working up a sweat in my sweater and boots walking to work.
2) In need for a cup of coffee? Not to worry, Starbucks is on every corner of Broadway and 7th.
3) All you do is eat and walk here. My daily schedule:
Walk to work.
Eat breakfast.
Work.
Eat Lunch.
Work.
Walk back home.
Change clothes for dinner.
Walk to dinner.
Eat dinner.
Walk back home.
It is refreshing. I walk away the calories I eat so that's a plus!

Well enjoy your weekend and here are some great links from around the web . . .

Avett Brothers

Lauren couldn't handle another blog post so I decided to take one for the team. My name is Sarah and I am Julies ex roommate along with Lauren. Lauren and I both had really hard weeks at both school and work so we decided to treat ourselves to the avett brothers concert at the tuscaloosa ampitheatre. I wasn't really a huge fan of the avett brothers until I heard them live and now I understand why Lauren was such a avid listener.
(and they aren't bad to look at either)
Here is the crew. Kam Lauren Me and Josiah. We really missed Julie though!
One of my favorite songs from tonight was laundry room. Heres a little listen but I will tell you nothing is better than the live version.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals opened for the band and I really enjoyed listening to them. That girl can sing her heart out. One minute she's head banging and the next she's singing a sweet tune.
I kinda want to be her.

Tomorrow is friday! Yay! Cheers to the freaking weekend!
